Liz Taylor Classic - Klimt vibes - Hand Finished Screen Print

£750.00

Charles Uzzell-Edwards, known as Pure Evil, is a street artist from South Wales recognised worldwide. His signature pieces include a vampiric bunny rabbit and iconic portraits with a single teardrop, commenting on the nature of fame and celebrity culture. His style was shaped by the West Coast graffiti movement during his time in California in the 1990s. Upon returning to the UK, he became a prominent figure in London’s street art scene. Since the inauguration of Pure Evil Gallery in 2007, he has garnered a well-deserved reputation among in both Street and Contemporary Art.

In a twist of fate, Pure Evil’s ‘Nightmare Series’ was born from an unsolicited email from a Chinese ‘copy village.’ This village, notorious for its art imitations, offered a catalog of artists they could replicate, including Warhol. Among their samples were three minuscule jpeg thumbnails—64 x 64 pixels each—of Warhol’s works featuring Jackie Kennedy, Liz Taylor, and an Electric Chair. These tiny digital images, distilling Warhol’s extensive oeuvre, ignited the inspiration for Pure Evil’s series. The ‘Nightmares’ are haunting celebrity portraits, their faces disfigured by cascading tears, each drop a testament to the shared heartbreaks and sorrows of past relationships that resonate with us all.

This image of Elizabeth Taylor originates from a publicity photograph for Taylor’s film ‘Butterfield 8’, serving as the inspiration for the screen print.
