Introducing… Annemarie Wright.

Originally from Cambridge and now living in Birmingham, Annemarie graduated with a Fine Art and Printmaking degree at Wolverhampton University in 2002. She started working with textual representation with her final degree show and has painstakingly created her unique artwork since.

Annemarie guides us to another point of view to observe the subject of her portraits or places inspired by popular culture or current affairs by recreating their image using only hand-written text – text that often describes, comments on, or comes directly from the mouth of the people she draws.

From a distance you will see a black and white image, a masterful likeness of the subject, however upon moving closer, the image unfolds into stylised handwritten text.

We are lucky to have three new originals by Annemarie in the gallery now. Birmingham’s own Prince of Darkness, Ozzy Osbourne, his Royal badness, Prince, and cultural icon and Pop Goddess, Kate Bush.
