AN EMERGING HEAVEN - NEW FROM SLEEP SPARROW
On Thursday, August 18, 2022, Seventh Circle - Artworks & Aesthetics will unveil a breathtaking new collection from Worcester-based artist Sleepsparrow, known to her loved ones as Sophie Chadwick.
Her latest series, ‘An Emerging Heaven’, features three mesmerizing paintings birthed from a profoundly challenging period in Sophie’s life. As she coped with the heartbreaking reality of losing her beloved Grandad to dementia after a long and arduous battle, Sophie found her art becoming a refuge. The connection they shared was not just familial; it was a sacred bond that continues to resonate deep within her.
In ‘An Emerging Heaven’, Sophie explores the delicate interplay between light and dark, skillfully employing vibrant blocks of color alongside striking black-and-white illusions. This series takes her previous, more exuberant Portal series and turns it on its head, creating pathways that lead to uncertainty, an echo of life itself. Where do they lead? Perhaps nowhere, maybe somewhere—or even to the end?
Just before Sophie had to say goodbye to her Grandad, she felt the universe pulling him away. “I could feel the pull of the universe trying to tear him away from me,” she poignantly recalls. ‘An Emerging Heaven’ serves as a visual tribute to those fleeting moments of connection and is dedicated to Frank Lock, 1934-2022.
This series beautifully encapsulates the tumultuous journey of grief, illustrating how losing someone dear can turn your world upside down. Yet, with time, the memories can illuminate your path, allowing them to shine brightly once more, if only for an ephemeral moment. In this way, they never truly leave us; we can sit in their radiant glow and feel their presence continue to color our lives.
